Virtualization with PowerVM
for IBM i |
Virtualization is a
critical element of a dynamic infrastructure that helps to
drive increased flexibility in service delivery, drive up
server resource utilization, and reduce costs. PowerVM is
IBM’s premier virtualization solution for Power System that
works to dynamically manage processor, memory and I/O
resources for IBM i, AIX, and Linux partitions. This session
will focus on the capabilities provided by PowerVM for IBM i
environments. Topics covered include logical partitioning,
automatic processor and memory movement, and I/O
virtualization with VIOS. |

SSD: Faster Than a Speeding Disk |
IBM has announced Solid State
Drives (SSD or sometimes called "flash" drives) for Power
Systems. These drives are much, much faster than the fastest
spinning disk in the world. Properly matched to the right
application in your shop, you can make some really great
changes to you system. If hardware is one of your
responsibilities or just one of your interests, you owe it
to yourself to attend this session. Learn where SSD can fit
into the your shop's architecture and hardware configuration. |

Racking your System Hardware without Aspirin |
If you've ever surveyed a
computer room full of haphazardly placed systems, their
associated I/O, UPS, communication gear and seemingly
hundreds of cables in gordian knots and realized it was YOUR
computer room, this session is for you. |

MySQL and PHP |
PHP is a very popular language
for developing/deploying Web-based applications. In 2006,
IBM introduced PHP for Web application development for IBM
i. Is PHP the right tool for you to extend your current IBM
i application suite, or to extend your company’s reach to
new customers? MySQL was added in 2008 to support PHP
applications running on IBM i. How does MySQL work with DB2
for IBM i? This session will explore typical uses of the
language and review implementations where PHP and MySQL make
sense. |

Application Development on
Power |
With the consolidation of
IBM's hardware platforms in the mid-market arena onto Power
Systems, companies are evaluating their software and trying
to understand strengths, weaknesses, similarities and
differences. This is true for compilers and tools used for
Application Development also. Keeping a focus on the
products available for IBM i, this presentation will review
industry trends and directions as well as cover the IBM
Offerings for developing applications. |
